Four Activities You Would be Amazed Infants are Capable of Doing..!
Infants only Suck, Cry, Feed and Sleep. If you think along this line, then you are mistaken. The following points will show you what toddlers are capable of achieving-
1. They can distract parents intentionally:
The toddlers are beautiful and innocent looking cherubs. To an extent it’s true, but remember, that they are also capable of lying or deceiving the parents. Surprised? Any toddler who breaks a toy or does some mischief around the house, will either a) Start shrieking or crying or b) Giggle overtly to distract the parent’s attention.
2. They are capable of reasoning:
One of the surprising discoveries about infant psychology in the 21st century has to be the fact that- toddlers have the sharp reasoning skills that one may expect from adults. Barring the children who suffer from delayed development issues, any infant can apply his/her rational mind at any given context. Following ways may help to develop reasoning skills:
• Asking your child for solution to questions or problems like: "It is raining and we can't go outside. What could we do instead?"
• Based on science or math topic, asking questions, predicting what will happen, and observing consequences.
• Playing games that involve classifying, comparing, and contrasting, and other matching and sorting games.
• Asking your little one to classify objects using more than one attribute for example "Find the large, blue square; find the small, red circle."
• Reading and acting out stories in which characters reason and solve challenging problems.
3. They have a thinking mind:
The toddlers have thinking minds too! You can’t fool them for a long time. If you break any of her dolls unintentionally then replace it with a new doll having same features; in most of the cases the child will be able to spot that her old doll is substituted with a new one. Similarly, studies have shown that an infant can tell the difference between a friendly canine and an angry one, even if the latter is not growling.
4. They understand social hierarchy:
If you think that kids can’t spot the chain of command in your household, then think again. If you belong to an orthodox family where the women have to abide by the rules set by the man of the household, then your infant can spot the hierarchy easily. That’s why it’s very important for the parents to behave in an equal manner to each other. Numerous studies have shown that children, who have seen gender disparity since the infancy in their homes, grow up with severe lop-sided perception about the opposite gender. Also if you insult your maids in front of your infant or speak to them degradingly, your child can pick that up from you.
So, do not underestimate the capabilities of the little ones, because they can actually give you a hard time in the near future..!
